Client overview

Sulzer AG, a globally active Swiss industrial group, specializes in pumps, services for rotating machines, as well as separation, mixing, and application technologies. With around 12,870 employees at over 180 production and service
locations in more than 40 countries, the company achieved a revenue of 3.425 billion Swiss francs in 2022. Sulzer stands for technological innovations and a consistent focus along the entire value chain.
The challenge
Desired Performence
Sulzer AG faced the challenge of using its heterogeneous IT system landscape, consisting of various ERP, CRM, sales, and eTendering systems, more efficiently. The goal was to find a solution that integrates all data sources efficiently, evaluates them flexibly, and provides results in a recipient-oriented manner. In addition to the existing SAP® BW and Microsoft SQL-based applications, a strategic BI frontend for data visualization and descriptive analytics was to be introduced.

The solution
Steffen Lange, Head of BI, Sulzer
The HICO-Group supported Sulzer AG in implementing QlikView as a strategic BI frontend. This enabled the integration and processing of data from around 15 different systems. Additionally, the HICO-developed extension TRUECHART was introduced, offering IBCS®-compliant
visualizations and central commenting functions. With the support of the HICO-Group and internal developers, around 45 global QlikView applications were created. Today, these applications are used in almost all departments – from finance and sales to procurement and
project management. This led to a significant performance increase: data queries that previously took several minutes are now completed in seconds. Additionally, transparency and data quality were significantly improved, and manual processes were standardized.
Future Outlook
Sulzer AG is committed to the continuous development of its BI solutions to make processes and analyses more efficient and data-driven in other areas. Planned projects and pilot applications aim to optimize financial analyses, strategic project management, as well as spare parts and service processes. With the introduction of self-service visualization solutions, Sulzer aims to further strengthen data-based decisions along the entire value chain.
