Committed to the Future Through Tradition

Tradition, as is well known, carries responsibility, and Oberpaur has a wealth of it. Since 1798, Oberpaur has stood for high-quality fashion and first-class service. Now in its seventh generation of family ownership, the company skilfully combines tradition and modernity at its stores in Landshut and Ludwigsburg. Oberpaur is particularly valued for its personal touch, reflected in services such as personal shopping and its in-house tailoring.

Today, the company embraces contemporary leadership and efficient controlling, a foundation that ensures a successful and future-proof business for generations to come, more than 225 years after its founding.

When Tradition Meets Transformation

Oberpaur's path to data excellence

When controller Doris Mayerhofer joined Oberpaur, it was already clear that the existing systems could no longer support modern controlling processes. Over the years, a range of cost centers had been added beyond retail spaces, including parking garages and café operations within the department stores, aspects that company founder Johann Nepomuk Wenzel Oberpaur could not have imagined more than 225 years ago.

As in many other companies, data from third-party systems such as DATEV and the merchandise management system were managed in sprawling spreadsheets. Consolidating all this data for analysis and use required enormous effort, resulting in a high susceptibility to errors. Reporting became unnecessarily complex, and planning sessions across departments at the P&L level were extremely time-consuming.

For the future generations of the fashion house, a stable BI foundation was to be established, a data solution that would enable informed decision-making and provide appropriate transparency.

Guided by Expertise

“Jedox recommended the HICO Group for the implementation, and after the first conversations, we knew: this was the right decision."
- Doris Mayerhofer, Controller, Oberpaur

It was quickly clear to everyone involved that a Jedox cloud solution was needed. The company was already in close contact with the software provider, who recommended bringing in the HICO Group experts. BI specialist Laurence Fuhlmann, an experienced digital transformation expert, took on the task of guiding the Oberpaur team into the future.

Starting with a comprehensive requirements analysis, Jedox was implemented within just a few months as the company’s central platform for planning, analysis, and reporting. The highest priority was ensuring the availability of actual P&L and balance sheet data. The next step was to fully integrate all planning areas.

To build a consolidated and reliable data foundation, data from DATEV, Excel, and other subsystems are now uploaded and integrated into the Jedox Cloud via upload files.

Turning Data into Decisions

A new chapter for oberpaur's controlling

 1. Future-oriented data architecture in the cloud
Within just a few months, the limited Excel environment was replaced by a modern, future-proof Jedox Cloud system. Data from all sources and third-party systems can now be easily consolidated. Revenues, gross profits, and location-based data are combined and precisely analyzed.

2. Planning
P&L planning now allows for detailed planning at the department and location levels, while personnel planning can be carried out down to the hourly level. Marketing planning has also been significantly improved, as seasonal campaigns, clearance sales, and special promotions can now be efficiently mapped.

3. Scenario planning
To better prepare the team for potential challenges, scenario simulation is now possible. Different scenarios can be stored and analyzed. Thanks to systematic data consolidation and Jedox’s flexible planning models, all business-specific requirements were successfully implemented.

4. Relief for the controlling department
This transformation has not only significantly relieved the controlling department but has also impressed department store managers and managing partner Christian Boniberger. The controlling team benefits enormously from the customizable heuristics available in self-service, giving Doris Mayerhofer and her team full control while streamlining processes.

5. Future-proof solution and a foundation for the next generations of Oberpaur
The solution boasts high user acceptance, providing a solid foundation for the company’s future planning and management. From kickoff to completion, the entire project took just 11 months, a highlight according to the lead controller.
