Sometimes words are not enough to capture the true essence of HICO and our team. We received a letter from our colleague Sello, so let’s hear his story!
Hello everyone!
My name is Sello, and I am from a small province Gauteng, right in the heart of South Africa. I joined HICO Group in March this year. The first thing I noticed in the company is the great culture and diverse teams gathering interesting personalities. HICO makes you feel welcome, and always reminds you how important you are in the whole process. This is my motivation to come to work every day.
Although I work as a data visualisation specialist, the favourite part of my job for me is meeting with stakeholders and learning their opinions. It is interesting to see how people with different experiences, and belonging to different age groups think. Of course, every role comes with certain challenges, and for me, the greatest challenge is not to accept too many responsibilities. I see myself as a “Yes” man, and I often take on too many responsibilities at once. I see opportunities for learning everywhere, which is why I am always willing to assist on any project or topic where I feel confident. As this was taking a toll on my work, I developed this great system that helps me deal with such challenges. For each request for help I schedule a meeting, which helps me to avoid putting myself under pressure. But I LOVE helping others, it helps me GROW!
A “job well done” that I am really proud of is implementing a feature allowing users to visually analyse their data directly through images automatically taken from the Internet upon the users’ request, and all that by a single click of a button! Such a feature allows the user to know exactly how the product they are analysing looks like. Of course, this would not be possible without the amazing HICO team and their inputs.
Great changes and developments are happening all the time. I believe that Collaborative BI is emerging more and more. It allows connecting with customers in real time to discuss and share insights.Collaborative BI makes it easier for team members to interact through collaborative dashboards and interactive reports. A great step for HICO is the implementation of Collaborative BI in TRUECHART.
You can tell that I am a real tech lover, and I really enjoy spending time playing tech quizzes. You could also say that I am a gym fanatic. Before HICO, I worked as a cashier at a supermarket, and this was also an interesting job. Something about me that others may be surprised to know is that I am a door-to-door preacher. I would describe myself as goal-driven, enthusiastic and reliable. More about me – I am married to my best friend, and we have 2 beautiful munchkins, a 3-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter. I am more of a dog person, and I have 6 of them roaming around the back yard, so you can imagine how busy my life gets!
As an advice for the end, I would like to share a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt – “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” Everything in life comes with its challenges and those challenges are what you truly need to strengthen you in every possible way. So when facing challenging times, see that as an opportunity to become stronger. Bruce Lee once said, “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”
